What is FENG SHUI

What is FENG SHUI

Feng Shui originated in China and is an important part of China's traditional mysterious culture.

Its core idea originated from the ancient ancestors' observation of the natural environment and their survival needs. In the subsequent history, it gradually integrated with the theories of Yin-Yang, Five Elements, Feng Shui, and Kanyu Art to form a complete system.

Feng Shui, as the name implies, is wind and water. Wind is the flow of air, and water is humidity. Simply put, when the "qi" flows smoothly, it is good Feng Shui, and when the "qi" stagnates or flows too fast, it is bad Feng Shui. It can be seen that wherever there is an environment, there must be Feng Shui. The theory of Feng Shui reflects the perception of the environment and is the reflection of the psychological needs and behavioral norms of early humans in the landscape.

"QI"

The core of Feng Shui is "Qi", which is the source of all things. Only places with "Qi" have hope, and places with hope are "auspicious places". The ultimate goal of Feng Shui is to find places where "Qi" can gather or grow.
"Qi" can be understood as a biological field or the earth's magnetic field. The earth is a planet surrounded by a magnetic field. People cannot feel its existence, but it always has an effect on people. A strong magnetic field can cure diseases, but it can also hurt people, and even cause dizziness, drowsiness, or neurasthenia.According to the movement and change laws of "Qi", regulating "Qi" to achieve the unity of heaven, earth and man will bring peace and happiness, and further improve luck, wealth, health, etc.

"YIN YANG"

As mentioned earlier, the core of Feng Shui is "Qi". "Qi" is basically a very subtle existence in real life, almost invisible and intangible, and can also be called a magnetic field. Feng Shui is also a philosophy of life that achieves harmony between man and nature through practical operations. It requires some entities that are tangible or can be felt to control the layout, and Yin and Yang are generated.
In Feng Shui practice, all environmental elements must be divided and balanced according to their yin and yang properties. For example, mountains are yang, water is yin. High is yang, low is yin. Movement is yang, stillness is yin.Feng Shui is essentially an environmental control system developed under the guidance of the Yin-Yang theory. Yin-Yang represents the two fundamental forces of unity of opposites in the universe. Yin-Yang and "Qi" are interdependent and mutually influential, and together they form the basic framework of Feng Shui theory.

Yin and Yang are the two basic attributes of "Qi"

"Qi" is the energy source of all things in the universe, and Yin and Yang are the two opposing and unified states of motion of "Qi".      ·Yang Qi: active, rising, radiating, warm (such as sunlight, mountains, dynamic space)
·Yin Qi: quiet, descending, condensing, cold (such as moonlight, water, quiet corners)
The movement of Qi is the rise and fall of Yin and Yang, such as the alternation of day and night and the cycle of the four seasons.

The harmony of yin and yang

determines the good or bad luck of "Qi"

·Auspicious Qi: When Yin and Yang are balanced, the Qi is in a harmonious state (such as gentle wind, drizzle, and an environment with moderate light and darkness).     · Evil Qi: When Yin and Yang are out of balance, Qi takes on an extreme state。
·Excessive Yin (such as long-term moisture in the basement) → Qi stagnation, which can easily lead to health problems.
·Excessive yang (such as excessive reflection from glass curtain walls) → Qi is dispersed, which can easily lead to restlessness.
Feng Shui adjustment:     ·In areas with excessive Yin Qi, you can increase lighting (replenishing Yang) and open windows for ventilation (promoting Qi flow).     ·In areas with excessive Yang Qi, you can use water features (replenishing Yin) and green plants (to buffer flowing of Qi) to balance it out.

The flow of Qi promotes the

transformation of Yin and Yang

Qi is a dynamic energy, and its flow process is the process of mutual transformation between Yin and Yang:
·Yang Qi dominates during the day, while Yin Qi dominates at night.     · The door is the "Qi outlet", which brings in external air (Yang) and converts it into stable energy (Yin) indoors.     ·In a Feng Shui house, the screen at the entrance is to allow the external Qi (Yang) to slowly transform into the internal Qi (Yin), and to avoid sudden changes in Yin and Yang caused by a direct attack.     ·In commercial spaces, the flow of people must conform to the principle of "Yang Qi drives wealth".

"Harmony between man and nature"

"Modern Feng Shui"

The development of Feng Shui has gone through a long development process such as primitive society, matrilineal clan, patrilineal clan, slave society, feudal society, etc. Its essence, as a relatively special natural science, has been tested by human social activities.
Modern Feng Shui is the product of the combination of traditional Feng Shui with natural geography, architectural landscape, psychology, ecology and design concepts. It weakens the metaphysical color and emphasizes practicality, scientificity and humanism. It has extremely strong application value.
Whether it is a traditional house or a modern building, Feng Shui guides the harmony of yin and yang of Qi through spatial layout, and ultimately achieves symbiosis and mutual prosperity between people and the environment.
Feng Shui divides space into Yin and Yang auras:
Area Attribute Qi requirements Feng Shui layout
living roomoffice Yang active and bright Sufficient lighting and smooth circulation
Bedroom/study Yin peaceful and stable Soft colors, avoiding noise
Kitchen(fire) Yang strong but need to be controlled Stay away from toilets (water and fire conflict)
Bathroom(water) Yin need to exhaust in time Keep dry and well ventilated

In the practice of Feng Shui, all environmental elements must be divided and balanced with Yin and Yang attributes.
Mountains are yang, water is yin.Movement is yang, stillness is yin.High is yang, low is yin.
In geography, the exchange of Yin and Yang produces various changes. The ideal Feng Shui pattern must be a state of harmony between Yin and Yang, and the Feng Shui layout pursues a balance between Yin and Yang.     ·Residential site selection: It is required to "bear the yin and embrace the yang" (with the back of the mountains as yang, and facing the water as yin).
·Architectural layout: low in front and high in back (Yin in the front and Yang in the back), symmetrical on the left and right (the green dragon on the left is Yang, the white tiger on the right is Yin).
·Interior design: The activity area (living room, kitchen) belongs to Yang, and the rest area (bedroom) belongs to Yin.
Feng Shui plays an important role in the daily life of Chinese people in any period, and is deeply rooted in traditional culture, architectural customs, home furnishings and even business decisions. It is not only a technique of environmental layout, but also a philosophy of life that pursues harmony, balance, health and improves fortune.
